The Medicare GLP-1 Bridge:

Do You Qualify?
One of the most common
questions we hear
If you have Medicare Part D and Sera Ramadan, D.O. has prescribed Foundayo or Zepbound for weight management, you may qualify for the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge — a manufacturer program that reduces your copay to $50 a month once a prior authorization is approved. Los Angeles Primary Care, located in Glendale, CA, helps patients throughout Glendale, Burbank, La Cañada Flintridge, La Crescenta, and Hollywood navigate this process from start to finish.
Not everyone with Part D qualifies. Eligibility depends on your age, coverage type, and your BMI at the start of therapy, along with certain health conditions. We'll confirm all of this together at your visit — but here's what the program looks for.
| BMI | Additional requirement |
|---|---|
| ≥ 35 | None — BMI alone qualifies |
| ≥ 30 | Plus HFpEF, uncontrolled hypertension, or CKD stage 3a+ |
| ≥ 27 | Plus pre-diabetes, prior MI, prior stroke, or symptomatic PAD |
Worth Knowing
When the Bridge program
doesn't apply
These situations fall outside the program — but they don't mean coverage is out of reach. We'll help you understand your other GLP-1 coverage options through your specific plan.
You have type 2 diabetes, moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea, or MASH — these have their own GLP-1 coverage pathway through your Part D plan.
You're already receiving a GLP-1 medication through your Part D plan.
Your coverage is through certain plan types (private fee-for-service, cost contract, PACE, and similar), unless also enrolled in a standalone Part D drug plan.
Claims and prior authorizations submitted before July 1, 2026 cannot be processed under the Bridge program.
What to Expect
How the Bridge
process works
We Send Your Script
At your visit, we confirm eligibility together and send your prescription to LillyDirect pharmacy or a retail pharmacy of your choice.
Pharmacy Files the Claim
The pharmacy submits your claim to the Bridge processor and confirms your identity with your Medicare Beneficiary Identifier. You won't get an immediate fill.
We Complete the PA
The processor routes a prior authorization request to our office, typically within 24–72 hours. We submit the documentation confirming your eligibility.
You Fill at $50/Month
Most authorizations are decided instantly. Once approved, your copay is $50 a month, and refills don't need a new PA unless you switch medications.
Which Medication Is Right for You
Foundayo vs. Zepbound
Both are covered under the Bridge program, but they work differently day to day. We'll help you decide which fits your routine at your visit.
Foundayo
- Orforglipron, taken by mouth once a day
- No needles or injection supplies needed
- Dose adjusted gradually by your care team
Zepbound
- Tirzepatide, self-injected weekly via KwikPen
- The Bridge program covers the KwikPen specifically, not the auto-injector or vial
- Pen needles are sold separately
